Fall CASA Training

Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers stand up for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect. CASA provides over 30 hours of in-depth training. Training includes courtroom procedure, court report writing, child welfare services, the juvenile justice system and the special needs of children.
Fall Training will take place Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6-9pm, Aug. 31- Sept. 30.

Into the Circle Conference

Two Feathers Native American Family Services is hosting a 2 day FREE regional conference on child abuse and neglect.
Into the Circle: To Strengthen, Protect, Balance, and Heal our Native American Children.

This event will take place on August 30 and 31 at the North Coast Inn in Arcata.

Conference Goals:
Participants will learn to identify and dispel myths concerning Native American People. Participants will understand issues affecting Native American families whose children have been exposed to traumatic events. Participants will learn about trauma-related effects for Native American families and their children. Participants will learn how to develop an ICWA-compliant coordinated case plan with the family, out of home care providers, tribes and private agencies. Participants will learn how tribes can achieve permanency for children without terminating parental rights. Participants will learn how to use NICWA's manual on development of tribal adoption codes. Participants will receive an overview of working with Indian families in child welfare. Participant will learn culturally appropriate ways to work with Native Americans in a Human Service setting. Participants will be able to identify elements of cross cultural healing.

Educational Advocacy

CASA Advocates are encouraged to attend our continuing education in honor of the "Back to School" season. We will discuss ways that advocates can be pro-active in supporting educational success for their CASA kids and will review strategies to support children with educational needs as well.
