A Family-Centered Approach to Working with Youth

In this workshop you will learn how to identify family issues that affect substance abuse, how to include the family in prevention and recovery, and how family dynamics play a role in preventing or tempting relapse. The workshop will focus on effective communication, the Drama Triangle, roles within the family, medical aspects of co-dependency. Presenter: Nancy Hunter

Nancy Hunter has been in the substance abuse field for 16 years including several years as a staff counselor with St. Joseph Hospital Family Recover Service, where there was a strong emphasis on family centered approach. Nancy conducts alcohol and other drug education support groups for students in the Eureka City Schools, through a Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities grant funded project.
